Spotify is one of the most popular streaming services because it’s so easy to use and is equipped with an extensive library of over 40 million songs. They also have various tiers of service, including an ad-supported free plan. To enjoy streaming offline and without ads, you just need one of Spotify’s premium plans. And for a household of between three to six members, the most convenient and cost effective choice is their Family plan.

What is Premium Family?

Premium Family is a discounted plan for up to six family members who live together. Each member is able to enjoy their own premium account, and you’ll only have to pay $22.50 a month. This way, everyone can enjoy ad-free listening without having to take turns. Each member can also keep all their own saved music and playlists, as well as music recommendations which are tailored to your individual tastes.

How to set up Premium Family

To subscribe to a Spotify Family Plan, go to https://www.spotify.com/nz/family/ and click get started. Then log in to your Spotify account and follow the on screen instructions.

If you already have Spotify Premium, on the Spotify website go to your Account Overview and under Your plan, click change plan and select Premium Family. Then follow the on screen instructions

Invite or remove family members

Once the plan is set up, the plan manager can then invite or remove members on the Family Plan. This is the step that allows everyone can keep their own playlists and play music whenever they want without having to take turns.

Simply go to your account page, scroll down to Manage your family accounts, and then select the option to add or remove members.

Invited members get a link to join, where they just need to Log in to their account (or sign up) and confirm their full address. Note that members the Family plan must live at the same address to join Premium Family.

What else does Premium Family offer?

On top of ad-free and offline streaming for up to six accounts, Premium family offers parental controls so you can set explicit content filters for your family members so you’re in charge of what they can and can’t hear.

Spotify Kids is also exclusively available with your Spotify Premium Family subscription. With Spotify Kids, your child can enjoy kid friendly content, listen to music, audio books and more. All content in Spotify Kids has been handpicked by Spotify editors to be family friendly and fun for kids to explore.

Spotify on Sonos

Sonos makes it easy to connect multiple accounts for the same music service. This means that everyone on the Spotify Premium Family plan can also add their accounts to the Sonos app and can access their own playlists and saved music through the Sonos app.

To do this, just make sure that everyone has the Sonos app on their own devices and is connected to the same network. Then each person can add their own Spotify account to the Sonos system by going to Settings, selecting Services & Voice and entering their own Spotify account details.

It is important to note that Sonos will only connect to a Spotify Premium account.
